The Technical Library operates as part of the Office of Technology Transfer
to provide access to technical and legal information for the agency, states,
tribes, industry, citizen groups and the public in upholding the Surface
Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (SMCRA).
The Library Catalog is web-accessible and may be searched at
http://www.wrcc.osmre.gov/glas.
OSM or State Regulatory Authorities staffs have borrowing privileges and the
collection is available to anyone else through the interlibrary loan process.
Listed below are some of the services we provide. We are always interested in
expanding our services. Please let us know if there are other ways we can help
you.
Reference, Research, and Referral Services
- We can provide on-line searches and reference assistance to help you in your
legal research regarding SMCRA and OSM regulations and directives.
- We can assist you with your basic research needs on specific subjects through
manual searches of our Technical Library collection, as well as, on-line
searches of bibliographic databases and the World Wide Web.
- We provide referrals to other libraries, agencies, or individuals who might
be able to assist with your specialized questions.
- OSM documents: We can supply information regarding the availability
of most Office of Surface Mining documents and we are sometimes able to supply
the documents themselves.
- Journal articles or proceedings papers: We can locate and supply you
with copies of many of these types of documents, particularly for conferences
specifically addressing surface mining issues.
- Other books and materials: We can assist you in finding the nearest
location of books or other items you need.
- "Current Journal Contents": Monthly, we issue a compilation of the
Table of Contents pages of the periodicals the Technical Library receives during the
preceding month. These are scanned and are placed on our website,
http://www.ott.wrcc.osmre.gov.
